Cornwall is beaches, coastline, countryside, walks, unexpected views and the chance to see dolphins or seals. Only in Cornwall could an old china clay pit become Eden. Only in Cornwall can you walk across an ancient landscape and see satellites pointing to space and wind turbines turning the crisp sea air into energy. It’s a place where the past meets the future and humans meet nature. Drama surrounds you at every turn as you become part of one of Britain’s most unique cultures.
Cornwall is not swayed by the latest trends. It’s a place where life is shaped by the elements. Stepping into Cornwall is like stepping into another world. It’s a world where nature is so embedded into everyday life that the latest innovations in technology and business go hand in hand with the landscape and a past that’s as deep as the mine shafts that still stretch out under the Atlantic.
Proper Cornwall is a special way of looking at the world.
Our team has grown up with Cornish mud and sand on our boots. We love the Duchy and we’ve spent a lifetime exploring Cornwall’s bays, hills, attractions and eateries. It doesn’t matter if you’re from Penzance or Paris, Launceston or London, we know your time in our great land is precious. Whether you’re visiting an attraction, grabbing a pint or pasty, basking in a bay, strolling along the sea cliffs, soaking up a sunset, gorging on grub at a food fest or submerging yourself in the sweet beats of a local band, we are here to give you our honest opinions about where to spend your hard-earned time and money.
You need an independent guide who’s in the know. A guide who puts an arm on your shoulder and takes you from sunrise to sunset across this magical place where land meets sea, this place of invention and elements, of unexpected viewpoints and experiences. Unearthing the hidden gems and corners of the Duchy is what we do. Take us on your journey as we share our experiences with you, helping you get the best out of your time in this legendary land.
But who exactly are we? Well, meet the team…
Rich Abrahams, co-founder and managing director
Rich layers a varied commercial background and leadership roles in client services with a PhD on destination branding and sustainable tourism. He is always looking for the next innovative thing to learn about, or the next exciting partner to collaborate with. Rich loves the great outdoors and can often be found messing around in Cornish waters, or frolicking about in Cornwall’s hills. Controversially, he’s cream first.
Matt Fleming, co-founder and content director
With more than 20 years of experience in media, Matt lives and breathes content. He grew up in Cornwall and Devon before moving to Hong Kong in 2011. He returned to the South West a few years ago and has loved getting back into the local life. Matt was an editor on local and regional newspapers in Devon and Cornwall for almost a decade and he was later the editorial director for Time Out Asia, as well as other senior Time Out roles, for nine years. Matt loves pasties, music festivals and exploring Cornwall… the proper way!
Merlin, Proper Cornwall’s roving reporter
There isn’t much that Merlin doesn’t know about Cornwall’s beaches, country walks and dog-friendly attractions. He’s lived his whole life (at least a couple of years…) in the Duchy and he’s barking mad about it. He’s a magical member of the Proper Cornwall team as he helps us tell our readers where to go and what to see if they’ve got a four-legged friend to entertain. Round of a-paws for Merlin!
