CORNWALL YOUTH NOISE ORCHESTRA 2023 CALLS ON NEW YOUNG MEMBERS TO JOIN ITS RANKS. ANYONE AGED 12 TO 16 YEARS OLD CAN SIGN UP NOW FOR THE ORCHESTRA’S SPRING/SUMMER SEASON. NO MUSICAL EXPERIENCE NECESSARY
Noise. We love it. Especially when it comes in the form of the Cornwall Youth Noise Orchestra, which is preparing for its 2023 Spring/Summer season now. If you are aged between 12 and 16 years old, you can join up today with no prior musical experience necessary. You just need to like making a great big tuneful awesome noise!
The orchestra, which was formed just last year by arts organisation Moogie Wonderland in Penryn near Falmouth, has already hit the airwaves on BBC Radio 3, as well as playing a concert at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall. But it’s now gearing up for the new season and is offering free weekly sessions to 12 to 16-year-olds every Wednesday from 1 March at Falmouth University’s Academy of Music and Theatre Arts (AMATA) on the Tremough Campus. Each session takes place between 4.30pm and 5.45pm.
Young people who have never picked up an instrument before are more than welcome to join the orchestra, as well as others who already play but want to ‘discover a different way of making music’. The orchestra intends to record and release its music on vinyl. Instead of learning notation and traditional instruments, it creates ‘fun music’ using all sorts of sounds, electronic kit and experimental instruments.
Around 50 young people joined the orchestra last year and, this year, the participants will compose and perform songs, as well as produce a concert and work towards an arts award. There will also be some weekend family sessions for some of the younger children to have a go.
To join the orchestra in time for its Wednesday 1 March 2023 session and then for every Wednesday until July during term time, visit the official website: here.
