What better way to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on Saturday 4 June 2022 than with some dancing queens and, well, Queen? For sure, the ABBA vs Queen double-header outdoor evening concert at Heartlands near Redruth is set to be a right royal gala of music and fun. Expect a kind of magic that won’t cost too much money, money, money.
The Queen’s Jubilee, celebrating 70 years on the throne, is taking place throughout 2022 but it culminates in a four-day bank holiday weekend between Thursday 2 June and Sunday 5 June. Parties and events are taking place at all times over the weekend but the Saturday night is a particularly special time if you’re an ABBA fan, a Queen fan or, of course, both. If you love these legendary acts then you’ve gotta snap up your ticket for a musical extravaganza that pays tribute to two of the best bands ever as well as our own majesty.
ABBA vs Queen is being held on the great lawn at Heartlands, a 19-acre attraction that ‘embodies Cornish culture’ in the heart of Pool, the village that’s sandwiched between the towns of Redruth and Camborne. There’s a mining museum, diaspora gardens, two big kids adventure play areas and much more here, alongside a regular roster of events and exhibitions. ABBA vs Queen is one of the biggest events of the year for Heartlands and should make for an unforgettable alfresco night of musical stars under the evening stars.
Two of the UK’s top tribute acts are playing the concert. The Good Old Fashioned Lover Boys are a bunch of talented lads from Cornwall who bring the sound and passion of Freddie, Brian, Roger and John to the stage. They’ve been around since 2014 and are well known on the tribute act and festival circuits. They pay tribute to one of the greatest rock bands in history, who started in 1970, sadly lost lead singer Freddie Mercury in 1991 and are still filling stadiums today. ‘Arrival UK’ (pictured above) are one of the greatest ABBA tribute bands in the world and they have literally played sell-out venues across the globe for many years now. They celebrate the Swedish pioneers of pop who shaped the future of music between 1972 and 1982, and released a handful of new songs just last year.
Dance and sing the night away to all your favourite ABBA tunes like ‘Waterloo’ and ‘SOS’, as well as all your top Queen songs like ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and ‘Radio Ga Ga’ at this unique night of celebration in the heart of Cornwall. Drinks and food are available from 6.30pm and the first band takes to the stage at 7.30pm. And then you’re in for a right royal treat. So, yeah, get your tickets for this majestic musical extravaganza in honour of our Liz so that Heartlands can rock you. Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!
