THE CORNISH GIN FESTIVAL AT THE ALVERTON HOTEL IN TRURO TAKES PLACE ON SATURDAY 17 SEPTEMBER. SAMPLE THE BEST CORNISH GINS AT THIS LOCAL FEST

Who doesn’t love a good gin? And when it’s been created locally, it’s even better. Head to The Alverton Hotel in Truro on Saturday 17 September and taste only the best in local gins at the Cornish Gin and Drinks Festival 2022.

The organisers say that between midday and 11pm (well, at least up to 7pm which is when the experts leave), visitors to the fest can ‘expect to meet the makers and sample the very best in Cornish drinks’ at this beautiful venue that was built in 1830 and is set in a former convent. Those Cornish drinks are mostly made up of gins but they say there’s also a large range of other spirits available ‘including local rums and craft liqueurs’, plus some craft beers. The first drink of the day, they say, is ‘on us’ and then it’s off to meet the experts in The Great Hall, a grand meeting room that can seat up to 140 people.

After The Great Hall, there are ‘oodles of samples’ at The Oak room, which can seat up to 40 guests. Here, aside from those sample tipples, there are live demos, talks and masterclasses from an array of gin distilleries, with some of the best Cornish gins on display for guests. Pick up ‘handy hints and tips to create your own top-notch tipples at home’, say the organisers. Also pick up a branded gin glass that can hold all those different tipples you try throughout the day.

Of course, no festival is a festival without live music. On the bill during this event are local singer-songwriting acts like Mog Jones and Jumping Out Jazz. The high-octane Falmouth Soul Sensation should also have them dancing in the aisles, particularly after a few of the special gin cocktails at the festival. Afternoon tea is also an option during the day. But we recommend forgetting about the ‘tea’ part and focusing more on the ‘T’. Tonic, of course. Mine’s a G & T! See you there…
