HALLOWEEN AT WHEAL MARTYN 2023 IS ALL ABOUT CREATIVE WORKSHOPS FOR THE KIDS ALONGSIDE STORYTELLING AND BUG TRAILS. POP IN DURING THE HALLOWEEN HALF-TERM 2023 WEEK AND ENJOY A FRIGHTENINGLY GOOD TIME…

Allantide is a load of traditional fun in Cornwall. To learn all about this historical festival that happens on the same day as Halloween every year, take a look here. Last year, Wheal Martyn near St Austell focused on Allantide when it came to creative workshops for the little monsters over the October half-term week.

Not this year. It’s all-out Halloween at Wheal Martyn during the October half-term week 2023 in Cornwall. If you have kids and they’re looking for something to do during the day between Monday 23 and Friday 27 October 2023, then head to the unique china clay attraction and take part in some ‘creative Halloween workshops’ 2023.

These creative Halloween-themed family workshops give participants the chance to craft their own spooky decorations using ‘clay and other natural materials’. This is a china clay attraction, remember, so it isn’t like there’s a shortage of great materials around to create the best (and spookiest) decorations for the season of ghouls and ghosts.

Kids are invited to decorate all sorts of fantasy-themed ceramics ‘such as toadstools’ and they can learn how to make, for instance, ‘ghostly and bat-inspired clay relief’ tiles. Families can pop in any time between 11am and 3pm on any of those five weekdays and just join in the fun. It costs anywhere between £1 and £8 extra to the entry fee to take part in the spooky activity.

China clay has played a huge part of Cornish history for hundreds of years. Wheal Martyn makes sure this part of our history does not get lost through both their charitable works and their attraction, which includes a fascinating museum. Organising events and workshops for families has become a big part of the calendar for the team, so these creative workshops for little gremlins are a highlight of the year.

There’s a ton of other activities and events around Allantide and Halloween that are taking place at Wheal Martyn over the October half-term period, including ‘Bertie Bat’s Bug Bonanza’. Between Saturday 14 and Tuesday 31 October 2023, Bertie Bat invites kids and families to help him find ‘his bugs to munch on’ by following a fiendish trail of clues around the attraction’s grounds. Prizes are up for grabs…

Plus, on Thursday 26 and Friday 27 October 2023, between 4pm and 6pm on both days, there’s spooky storytelling sessions at Wheal Martyn. Each session lasts about an hour and actually tours the attraction’s grounds rather than staying in one place. The tales are suitable for children. Find out more about these sessions on the official website.

Don’t freak out at Allantide this year as you scramble around looking for Halloween activities for kids in Cornwall 2023. Chill out and head to Wheal Martyn and join one of the creative workshops instead. Or go on a trail looking for bugs. Or join a storytelling tour. It’ll keep your kids out of mischief… until October 31, that is. Then, all hell breaks loose. Mwahahahaha…
