Yule love this Christmas market in the southern Cornish coastal town of Fowey. The 2023 Fowey Christmas Market is billed as ‘one of Cornwall’s most magical festive events’ and it takes place between Friday 8 and Sunday 10 December 2023. It’s open between 5.30pm and 8.30pm on the Friday, 10am and 5.30pm on the Saturday and 10am and 4pm on the Sunday.
Actually it’s less one market and more a series of markets across the town. The Christmas markets in Fowey 2023 spread out over locations like Albert Quay, Webb Street and, of course, Fowey Town Quay. Almost 100 traders from across the region will be selling their seasonal wares across these markets.
Expect an array of festive activities alongside the fab shopping opportunities at the markets. Tens of thousands of people, both locals and visitors, descend on the markets every year for the bargains, the premium Yuletide goods, the food, the drink, the seasonal music, the family entertainment and the gift buying.
There are so many seasonal goods on offer at the three-day event. Award-winning cheeses. Handmade jewellery. Ornate Christmas-tree decorations. Locally produced wine. In fact, Swannacott Manor Meats, Fused Glass by Claire Harris, the Moorland Distillery, Chocolarder, The Cornish Gin Distillery, The Aussie Smoker, Louise Daykin Prints, Mushlove Cornwall and many, many other traders will sell their wares at these markets.
All sorts of events go on around the market too. Here’s a flavour: between 5.30pm and 7pm on the Friday, Andy ‘The Crooner’ Marshall performs in the entertainer’s gazebo on Town Quay before Santa rocks up on a tug at Berrill’s Yard and proceeds to lead the Christmas light parade throughout the town. Also meet Winter Fawn and the Elf Stilt Walkers in the town between 5.30pm and 8.30pm alongside the Snow Queen Living Statue. The Christmas lights are switched on in Fowey from 7pm.
On the Saturday, between 12midday and 2pm, soulful singer Georgia d’Arcy-Roden performs in the entertainer’s gazebo before Samba Kernow and Jump Out Jazz perform their shows in various locations around town between 2pm and 4pm. There’s a quiz night too at the King of Prussia pub from 8pm.
Andy ‘The Crooner’ Marshall returns to the gazebo between 12midday and 2pm on the Sunday and Samba Kernow play around town in the afternoon. The final musical act of the weekend is The Velvets who perform at the gazebo between 2.15pm and 3.15pm before the whole 2023 Fowey market weekend closes on a high note.
