THE GIGSPANNER TRIO, SUPPORTED BY KNIGHT & SPIERS, PLAY ST ENDELLION CHURCH IN NORTH CORNWALL ON THURSDAY 6 JULY 2023 FROM 7.30PM. CATCH ONE OF BRITISH FOLK’S FINEST TRIOS FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY…

Folk who love folk will know all about the Gigspanner Trio. And if they know all about the Gigspanner Trio, then they’ll also know all about Peter Knight, a fiddle player who has wowed audiences far and wide thanks to his mastery and devotion to his instrument. The musician was once a member of Steeleye Span, a British folk-rock act which has now incredibly spanned seven decades.

Knight, who was once described by the late author Sir Terry Pratchett as a musician who ‘can spin the world on his bow’, is joined by Roger Flack on guitar and Sacha Trochet on drums, making up the Gigspanner Trio. Their musical influences draw from folk music across the British Isles, as well as plenty of Irish folk influences and beyond. The trio has been called ‘a genuinely ground-breaking force on the British folk scene’. We agree.

Much of Gigspanner’s music is self-penned and richly atmospheric, painting a picture in colours with their instruments. And where is best to watch the trio? Ah, that’ll of course be a venue where the acoustics are perfect, so every pluck, chord and beat can chime in harmony as the audience laps up each song, one after another.

And what venue do we know in Cornwall that’s as close to acoustically perfect as you can get? That’ll be Cornwall’s St Endellion Church near Port Isaac. The church has become known as an immense spot for catching live musical performances, thanks to its acoustics and its gloriously intimate setting.

Catch Gigspanner in the intimate setting of St Endellion Church on Thursday 6 July 2023 from 7.30pm. Also catch the support (well, less support and more of a double-header) Knight & Spiers. Wait, Knight? Yup, Peter is pulling a double-header at this concert as he joins Bellowhead founder and melodeon player, John Spiers, for yet more music inside the church. The duo have performed together since 2016 and have been described as ‘inspiring future generations of musicians to engage with Britain’s folk dancing heritage’.

This is sure to be a special concert starring a Knight of the folk table. Make sure you book your tickets early and then prepare to catch one of the greatest folk fiddle players of the past few decades in concert with just a few of his equally talented friends.
