Anyone who’s a parent has been there. It’s half term. It’s February. The kids are climbing up the walls. The weather is a bit hit and miss. What the hell can you do?
Well, we have a Tudor rose-shaped answer for you in the shape of Pendennis Castle and its Half Term Explorer Quest. Yep, your mini Henrys and little Lizzies will be able to roam around the castle and its grounds in Falmouth in search of historical clues. Although originally a Tudor castle, Pendennis has seen many changes over the centuries, serving as the coastal town’s gatekeeper even as recent as the Second World War, so there’s plenty of stories, characters and history to keep young (and old) minds entertained for a good few hours.
This ‘explorer quest’ takes the young participants around Pendennis Castle, the moat that surrounds it, the war bunkers, the soldiers barracks, the fearsome displays of artillery guns and the exhibits that give a taste of what life was like in and around the grounds over the ages. The team from English Heritage who look after the attraction are curating an adventure that will lead youngsters through the story of the castle and the lives of those who have passed through it. It’ll allow the rugrats to burn off some energy while learning at the same time. There’s also a great café on the site where parents can relax while the kids explore, so this may be exactly what you’re all looking for this February half term. Whatever the weather!
