THE HALLOWEEN MAZE OF HORRORS 2023 ON SATURDAY 28 OCTOBER 2023 AT SMEATON FARM NEAR SALTASH IS LIKE NOTHING YOU’VE EVER EXPERIENCED BEFORE. THIS IS A REAL MAIZE MAZE THAT PULLS NO PUNCHES WITH ITS FRIGHTS…

Hold on to your scarecrow’s hats. Button up those vampire costumes. And don’t scream like a banshee when you enter the Halloween Maze of Horrors at Smeaton Farm in Pillaton near Saltash and not far from Liskeard either. This annual fright experience in the Cornish Maize Maze at the farm is like nothing you’ve ever experienced before. It’s dark, it’s claustrophobic and it’s terrifying.

This is a one-off annual event so it only takes place on Saturday 28 October 2023 in preparation for the following Tuesday’s Halloween experiences across the Duchy. There are, as the organisers put it, real ‘scare scenes’ along the way in a real field maize maze with a barbecue and actors who perform fire stunts at the end.

This experience is not for the faint-hearted. Each journey into the labyrinth takes about 15 minutes and there are fire jugglers and ‘scare actors’ at every turn in there. Keep your wits about you and your eyes peeled on the way…

Pre-booking your tickets to the Halloween maze is essential. And then you’ll be given a time after 6pm on the night once the sun has gone down and the demons, ghouls and ghosties come out to be play. Families with kids are welcome but ‘parental discretion is advised’ as this dark maze takes nerve. The organisers say ‘this will probably be the scariest 15 minutes of your life!’. It’s £16.50 per person for a ticket.

All that too much for you? Well, how about leaving all the frights behind and focusing instead on those Halloween pumpkins? There is also a pumpkin picking option at the farm on Saturday 14, Sunday 15, Saturday 21 and Tuesday 31 October 2023 between 10.30am and 5pm each day. Entry is £5 per adult or kid and under-twos go for free. It’s a quid for a small pumpkin and £4 for a large one.

Kids can go in the maze on those pumpkin-picking days too and take part in a Halloween-themed quiz. Rest assured, however, the frights are not so scary on these days. And ‘all the normal farm animals’ will also be on-site to meet and greet you.

Save the spine-tingling, blood-curdling terrors for the real deal after dark on Saturday 28 October. Will you survive that maize maze? Probably but you’ll be a changed person… perhaps forever…
