JACK CARROLL WILL PLAY THE BARREL OF LAUGHS COMEDY AND BEER FESTIVAL AT THE DRIFTWOOD SPARS PUB IN CORNWALL’S TREVAUNANCE COVE BETWEEN FRIDAY 10 AND SUNDAY 12 MARCH 2023. PREPARE FOR YOUR SIDES TO SPLIT
The Driftwood Spars pub in the tiny Trevaunance Cove near St Agnes and Perranporth on the north Cornish coast is making a real name for itself as a venue for top class comedy. And its ‘Barrel of Laughs Comedy and Beer Festival 2023’ is set to be the inn’s best laugh-inducing event yet. Held between Friday 10 and Sunday 12 March, the festival should make for a raucous, hilarious and fun few evenings.
But who is headlining the fest? That title goes to the runner-up of the seventh series of ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, 23-year-old Jack Carroll. The British comedian, whose cerebral palsy is often at the heart of his humorous routines, has become known far and wide as one of the best young funnymen on the circuit. He’s also an actor and a Pride of Britain award holder, so expect an unforgettable live comedy experience when he rocks up on Friday 10 March between 7.30pm and 10.30pm. Alex Kitson is also expected to perform on the night.
Carroll is also playing the crowds at the pub between 7.30pm and 10.30pm on the Saturday night. Another highlight at the festival will be the closing act by the ‘Kernow King’ Ed Rowe. Much-loved locally, Rowe is both Cornish actor and comedian. He starred in BAFTA-winning movie ‘Bait’ and he is a master at the mic, so expect his routines to end the fest on a total high on Sunday 12 March.
Plenty of craft beer will also star at the festival, with lots of upbeat music and some ace pub grub on the menu too thaty’s served between midday and 9pm. The music lineup features Hedluv and Passman, rock and blues cover band blueStealers and True Collison, plus an open mic session on at 5pm on the Sunday. Craft ale fans will love the a selection of cask and keg beers on offer.
The festival is not the only comedy event at The Driftwood Spars this year. In fact, expect a lineup of top acts at the historic brewpub throughout 2023 under the clever moniker of ‘Comedy on Tap’. Look out for details on the official pub website for comedians like Harriet Dyer and Freddy Quinne. There are 15 bedrooms at the pub sop you could always book in so you have a place to rest after all that laughing.
Entry to the Barrel of Laughs festival is non-ticketed and free, which covers most of the music performances that are being staged over the weekend. Tickets for the comedy acts, however, are £15 each and parking is free. There’s a free comedy jam too between 6pm and 7.30pm on the opening Friday.
The pub was built in the 1650s but with all this top class comedy going on, there is a little worry that the roof will roll off as the walls split some time this March…
