JUAN MARTIN PLAYS ST ENDELLION CHURCH ON SATURDAY 12 NOVEMBER 2022 FROM 7.30PM. ENJOY A LIVE PERFORMANCE FROM ONE OF THE BEST FLAMENCO GUITARISTS IN THE WORLD IN A UNIQUE CORNISH SETTING
Nothing beats the sweet sound of a flamenco guitar. This instrument, which is similar to a classical guitar only a little thinner, creates a gritty, robust sound that seems to ooze a joy for life off every single one of its nylon strings. In any setting, the music that this guitar creates is nothing short of beautiful but inside an intimate Cornish church, it’s nothing short of divine. Especially if it’s being plucked by a world master.
Juan Cristóbal Martín plays the flamenco guitar inside the Collegiate Church of St Endellion in St Endellion village near Port Isaac on Saturday 12 November from 7.30pm. The gig is expected to draw fans of the maestro from far and wide as, quite simply, he is one of the top three flamenco guitarists in the world. And due to the sheer beauty of the church and the perfect acoustics that resonate in there, this intimate concert is expected to be an utter classic.
Martín has toured across the world over many decades. The 73-year-old, who was raised in Malaga, Spain, has played concerts from Shanghai and Melbourne to London and New York over his career, with one of the highlights being Pablo Picasso’s 90th birthday celebrations in 1971. Experts have compared the musician and composer’s compositional talent to that of Albéniz, Tárrega and Turina, plus the books that he’s penned for anyone learning the flamenco guitar are frequently referred to as ‘The Bibles’ by masters of the instrument.
This concert is expected to be ‘an evening of exquisite and highly sophisticated contemporary music’ inside the idyllic Cornish countryside church. Snap your ticket up now and then enjoy one of the flamenco guitar’s true global pioneers in a one-off gig that should both celebrate this glorious instrument and celebrate the sort of sweet sounds that you can hear up close and personal at St Endellion Church.
