NATIONAL CORNISH PASTY WEEK 2024 IS BETWEEN MONDAY 26 FEBRUARY AND SUNDAY 3 MARCH 2024 ACROSS CORNWALL. MARK THE OCCASION BY STUFFING YOURSELF WITH OGGIES AND SUPPORTING CHARITABLE CAUSES...
We all know that the Cornish pasty is the king of pasties. It’s the king of baked foods, in our opinion. So it’s only right that it gets an entire week of celebrations across the Duchy and across the UK. National Pasty Week 2024 takes place between Monday 26 February and Sunday 3 March 2024. And there are two great ways to celebrate it…
The first is to support your local traders and stuff yourself with all that meat and potato goodness throughout the week. Perhaps bake some oggies of your own too to mark the occasion. The second, though, is to support any 2024 Pasty Week charitable causes that will be organised across the Duchy.
One novel way to mark the week is to support a new initiative that is focused on encouraging cookery in Cornish schools. Basically, anyone who makes or sells delicious Cornish pasties during the week can donate a set amount of cash from every oggy they sell to the Cornish Pasty Community Fund, which was introduced in 2023. The minimum donation to the fund is simply 1p per pasty.
So, in short, if you buy an oggy from a trader who is supporting the week and the fund, then a portion of your money will go towards providing resources and regular cooking activities in schools across Cornwall and Scilly. Money raised in the initiative will go towards projects like buying kit and ingredients or running cooking clubs or other fun food schemes.
A total of £14,500 was raised during the 2023 Cornish Pasty Week for the Cornish Pasty Community Fund. The cash went to local food redistribution charity Devon and Cornwall Food Action, which used the money to purchase an additional van to help service marginalised families in the Duchy. However, this year it’s all about supporting Cornwall’s next generation of culinary maestros.
It’s up to you in Cornwall during the 2024 National Cornish Pasty Week. Choose to help the fund or another charitable cause, or just enjoy a week of paying tribute to one of our greatest exports down here in the Duchy. The Cornish pasty: we love you and we salute you. And then we’re going to eat you. Three cheers for the oggy!
