NICOLE TESSEYMAN’S ALBUM LAUNCH PARTY IS AT THE ENGINE INN NEAR ST IVES ON FRIDAY 16 FEBRUARY 2024 BETWEEN 7PM AND 9PM. THE CORNISH SINGER-SONGWRITER’S NEW ALBUM IS CALLED “OLL AN GWELLA”. ENJOY THE PARTY…
One of Cornwall’s most melodic and exciting up-and-coming music talents is launching her debut studio album “Oll An Gwella” in a pub near St Ives in mid-February 2024. And Nicole Tesseyman tells Proper Cornwall that anyone can go along to the launch party.
Tesseyman, a Cornish singer-songwriter who has a melodic voice and plays acoustic guitar alongside country, folk and sea shanty styles, is launching the new album at The Engine Inn, which is in Cripplesease, Nancledra, between St Ives and Penzance. The party is between 7pm and 9pm on Friday 16 February 2024.
The local artist, who was born and bred in St Ives, has been playing for years just for herself but she only started playing in public a couple of years ago. And it wasn’t long before she was signed by record producer Steve Carrigan at Kidderminster-based label Polyphony Records shortly after playing a gig inside a church at the 2022 St Ives September Festival. She has been working on the 12-track album since then.
Cornish speakers will understand the “Oll An Gwella” title as it means ‘all the best’ in Cornish. Tesseyman says she chose the title after seeing how Proper Cornwall co-founder and content director Matt Fleming signs off all his emails.
She says: “I’m so excited to release my debut album. Since 2022, it’s all been a whirlwind as I’ve been so many gigs alongside writing this record. I’ll be playing lots of songs off it at the party, so please come and join me on 16 February.
“The Engine Inn is actually where I did my first gig and where I regularly play. Nobody needs to book for the launch party. Just turn up and there’s loads of parking available. Pasties are on sale too, just to keep with Cornish tradition!”
The artwork on the album’s front cover was created by one of Tesseyman’s friends, Michael Hocking, also from the north Cornish town. She says she met him at the St Ives School of Painting about eight years ago.
You can buy the new album on CD at the launch. They are priced £15 each. Tesseyman adds: “Come and enjoy a pasty and a pint, celebrating the release of some homegrown Cornish songs. It would be lovely to share this moment with you, my beauties!”
