THE REDRUTH INTERNATIONAL MINING AND PASTY FESTIVAL 2023 TAKES PLACE BETWEEN FRIDAY 8 AND SUNDAY 10 SEPTEMBER 2023, WITH THE MAIN CELEBRATIONS ON THE SATURDAY. GET GROGGY ABOUT THE OGGY IN REDRUTH…

What’s Cornwall famous for? Mining. Yes, it’s definitely been famous for that for hundreds of years. Pasties. Yes, it’s world famous for its Cornish pasties. And then there’s… wait, that’ll do. Let’s build a festival around pasties and mining!

And that just about sums up the Redruth International Mining and Pasty Festival 2023, known by many as simply the Redruth Pasty Festival 2023. Take the best of the Duchy, put it in one of its most beautiful historical towns and there you have it: one of the best food and traditional industry-related Cornish fests of the year.

The ever-popular festival returns to Redruth on Friday 8, takes place across Saturday 9 and finishes on Sunday 10 September 2023. It involves plenty of different events and activities in plenty of different venues across the town, each one celebrating mining, pasties, Cornish culture or the town itself.

But what’s on at the 2023 Redruth Mining and Pasty Festival? Here’s your rundown…

Friday 8 September 2023, 4pm-6pm: ‘A celebration of all the miners who worked in mines at home and abroad’ kicks off the 2023 fest. Local miners will be involved in this two-hour event featuring storytelling and magic. Join a storytelling walk that departs from the Redruth‘s famous Miner Statue at 4pm and listen to the Redruth Festival Band along the way. Also enjoy music and dancing at Wheal Uny Mine on the eastern slopes of Carn Brea. The engine houses at the mine will be smoked once again at the end of the evening.

Saturday 9 September 2023, 10am-3pm: The main festival day! Live music, interactive stalls, workshops, street food and those famous pasty competitions (prepare for some creatively baked oggies!) take place over five hours in the heart of Redruth. The stalls will be in Fore Street, however there will be ‘pockets of entertainment and interactive events across town’ throughout the day. Also expect a ‘Diaspora food village’ and a new Pasty Relay Championship competition. Check out the official website for more details.

(*On Saturday 9 September in Redruth, the Redruth Freemasons are holding a Masonic Hall Open Day. This is not affiliated with the Mining and Pasty Festival, however it is also worth checking out. Read all about it: here.)

Sunday 10 September 2023, 11am-3pm: The Victoria Park Fun Day 2023 features an array of food, drink and charity stalls alongside family games, entertainment and face paining. There’s also a dog show. But where is the Victoria Park Fun Day 2023 taking place? We have literally no idea… ha, of course it’s in the famous park off Adelaide Road. And that should close off a fun weekend toasting mining heritage, pasties and, well, Redruth herself.

It’s worth making sure you’re around from early doors until late on Saturday in the mining heritage town to get the best out of this lively festival. Although by that token, you’re also best enjoying that fascinating mining walk on the Friday and, of course, the family fun activities that make up the Victoria Park Fun Day on the Sunday.

Click on the ‘website’ link above and check out the official website for all times and details. It’s certainly worth going to the Redruth Mining and Pasty Festival 2023 on an empty stomach too. Those delicious pasties won’t eat themselves. And if you’re creative enough, then get baking now and enter your oggies into those contests. Good luck! We will see you there!
