THE ST MARY’S SINGERS PERFORM THEIR “BLESSED CECILIA” CONCERT AT ST ENDELLION CHURCH NEAR PORT ISAAC ON SATURDAY 26 NOVEMBER FROM 7.30PM. THIS LOCAL CHOIR ARE SERVING UP SOME HEAVENLY PRE-CHRISTMAS MUSIC…

Who are the St Mary’s Singers? Well, if you live in Truro, you should know this answer to this question. If you don’t, well, you’re in for a treat. The St Mary’s Singers are the resident voluntary choir at Truro Cathedral. And they’re a harmonious bunch, to say the least.

From 7.30pm on Saturday 26 November, the singers perform their “Blessed Cecilia” concert at the Collegiate Church of St Endellion. This beautiful Cornish countryside church near Port Isaac is famous for its acoustics and intimate atmosphere, so it’s the perfect place to catch one of the finest choirs in Duchy up close and personal.

This concert is in recognition of the feast of St Cecilia, who is the traditional patron of music and musicians. Expect a programme of works that ‘celebrate the saint’s expressed joy in music-making’ and feature Benjamin Britten’s melodic rollercoaster, ‘Hymn to St Cecilia’. The 40-strong choir, which sings ‘a range of music, both secular and sacred, from all centuries, medieval to present-day’, is expected to perform together with soloists and a chamber ensemble in this special gig.

So, looking for something in Cornwall to satisfy your pre-Christmas hankering to see a choir performing some classics in a church? You can’t go wrong with St Mary’s Singers at St Endellion Church then.
