THE BOOK OF MORMON HEADS TO THE THEATRE ROYAL PLYMOUTH FOR A RUN BETWEEN TUESDAY 14 AND SATURDAY 25 JANUARY 2025. PREPARE FOR AN OUTRAGEOUS COMEDY SHOW THAT’S SIMPLY LIKE NO OTHER…

Like it or loathe it, no-one can complain that ‘South Park’ wasn’t groundbreaking. The oh-so-not-PC cartoon series smashed boundaries and, well, it’s still doing so today. It also launched its creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone — also the brains behind animated movie ‘Team America: World Police’ — into the stratosphere thanks to their courage, their limitless storytelling skills and their willingness to take on any subject, however ‘close to the knuckle’ that story may be.

And that spirit and sentiment is just what the writers continued with ‘The Book of Mormon’. Here, it’s religion that gets the Stone-and-Parker treatment, with a little help from Bobby Lopez, the co-writer of ‘Avenue Q’ and ‘Frozen’. This is an outrageous comedy stage musical that follows the adventures of a couple of Mormon missionaries who go way out of their comfort zone.

With nine Tony awards and four Olivier awards behind it, smash-hit musical ‘The Book of Mormon’, which was first staged in early 2011, is a tour de force. The new-look show opened in Manchester in September 2024 and heads to Theatre Royal Plymouth for a run between Tuesday 14 and Saturday 25 January 2025.

Adam Bailey plays Elder Price and Sam Glen is Elder Cunningham in the show, with Nyah Nish as Nabulungi, Tom Bales as Elder McKinley and Will Barratt as the famous Joseph Smith. The musical has smashed long-standing box office records in London, Melbourne, New York, Sydney and other cities since it was created. The show runs for two hours and 20 minutes.

You must be over 14 years old to watch the show as there’s some explicit language and, in Stone and Parker style, plenty of adult themes throughout. But if you are over 14, then the show is worth it. Prepare to go door-to-door and spread the word about one of the best musical comedies in recent years at one of the best theatres in the UK. See you there!
