THE PEOPLE’S STRING FOUNDATION SERENADES THE MASSES IN CORNWALL ON FRIDAY 27 JANUARY 2023. EXPECT A ‘HEADY MIX OF PASSIONATE THEATRICS’ ALONGSIDE SOME OF THE MOST MOVING MUSIC FOR MILES AROUND…
Throughout 2022, Cornwall’s idyllic Collegiate Church of St Endellion in the parish of St Endellion near Port Isaac held a string of packed concerts, ranging from sweet classical and epic choral to introspective folk. And this trend continues into 2023 as Endelienta Arts, the company behind the concerts, has some moving musical treats in store, including this dynamic feast of sound and energy.
The People’s String Foundation are unique. A spokesman for Endelienta Arts describes this act as a ‘brilliant South West-based band’, although we would call the foundation a band, an orchestra and a theatrical experience all in one. The spokesman says: “The People’s String Foundation bring together a heady mix of passionate theatrics, artisan flavours and world beats.”
The act is led by violinist Ben Sutcliffe, who was previously a composer and musical director for Kneehigh Theatre. Endelienta’s spokesman concludes: “The band encompass a grassroots level philosophy, working with local musicians, communities and schools. Expect an evening of heart racing, soul warming and toe-tapping music.”
It’s hard to describe the foundation because they are different things to different people. The vocals frequently soar (expect those pipes to resonate beautifully inside the church!) and the original orchestral pieces can be complex and dramatic, especially as they are always wonderfully performed. There’s a youthful enthusiasm to the act and a drive to both entertain and to take the audience on a journey. The foundation plays the church from 7.30pm on Friday 27 January 2023.
It’s a special year in 2023 with the St Endellion Easter Festival’s 50th edition. Keep an eye open for details on these pages but until then enjoy barnstorming gigs like this one from the People’s String Foundation. We’ll see you there…
