It was a sad day on 17 December when one of the Westcountry’s most famous bands lost its beloved drummer. When John Morgan – who had been performing for The Wurzels for more than 40 years – died in hospital aged 80 after contracting COVID-19 while on tour, the band and its hordes of fans across the UK and beyond went into mourning. They are still grieving today as Morgan was a popular and talented artist who was also bags of fun.

So what better way to pay tribute to the drummer and his memory than to catch the larger-than-life folk band in one of their first gigs back on stage after Morgan’s passing? The Wurzels rock up in Cornwall on their combine harvesters to The Social Bar and Eatery in Liskeard on Saturday 19 February.

The Wurzels, a ‘British Scrumpy and Western band’ which was started by the late Adge Cutler back in the 60s, are, quite simply, musical legends in the Westcountry. The Somerset-based outfit have built up a massive cult following in the UK over almost half-a-century due to their barnstormin’ performances and due to songs like ‘Drink up thy Zider’, ‘I am a Cider Drinker’ and the chart-topping ‘The Combine Harvester’.

Support at The Social comes from Whistlebelly, who hail from the Plymouth and South East Cornwall areas and play a unique brand of ‘Southern fried rock’. Catch them in action from 8pm and then get those boots a-stompin’ with the greatest Westcountry folk band in history right up to 11pm. This one’s for John Morgan!
