You may have missed it but it’s unlikely: in June 2021, all eyes turned to Carbis Bay as it hosted the G7 conference of world leaders. It put the bay on the international map but, to be frank, it isn’t like this area was a hidden gem anyway. Holidaymakers have been flocking to Carbis Bay Beach for its fine sands and waterside activities for years.

Carbis Bay Beach, which is surrounded by subtropical plants and boasts clear waters, is hardly in the centre of St Ives but it is around a mile to its east. It’s worth visiting for a sunny afternoon if you’re in the area. It’s not really known for its surfing here but it is known as being a fine family spot due to safe swimming out in the waves. Plus, just a short walk on the beach’s east side at low tide reveals Porthkidney Beach which is a haven for birds.

Lifeguard cover is on hand throughout the summer and dogs are welcome in Carbis Bay Beach apart from during those summer months. It’s actually owned by the hotel that overlooks it but it is open to the public, of course. And good job it is because it does offer a great alternative for families to the excellent beaches that surround St Ives. For the fitter people among you, having breakfast in the town centre and then walking up the hills to Carbis Bay Beach is a great way to start your day.

Carbis Bay Beach is a clean spot, winning awards for its cleanliness and water quality over the years. This means that aside from relaxing on the soft sands, activities are the order of the day. And that’s handy because there’s a watersports centre on the site that caters for visitors who want to try surfing, sailing, kayaking or even stand up paddleboarding. There are also huts available to hire and a restaurant on the beach, with other refreshment options nearby. A car park is also close by as are some well-kept toilets. All great facilities for a beach that’s been on the world map for many years now.
