LOOE FOOD FESTIVAL 2023 SETS UP STALL IN THE PRETTY SOUTH COAST TOWN ON SUNDAY 10 SEPTEMBER BETWEEN 10.30AM AND 5PM. EXPECT COOKERY DEMOS AND BUCKETLOADS OF LOCAL GRUB IN THIS FREE-TO-ENTER FOODIE EVENT…
Looe is one of the most beautiful towns in Cornwall. And it’s also one of the best places in the Duchy to sample tasty local food. So, combine great grub with wonderful vistas and what do you get? Welcome to the Looe Food Festival 2023.
The festival takes place at Buller Quay on Sunday 10 September from 10.30am until 5pm. There have been editions of this scrumptious fest in the past, so it is making a return to the town. Expect a full day of cookery demonstrations from talented local chefs from around the area.
Award-winning chef Peter Gorton will join some of the best culinary talents from the town and surrounding areas on the stage at the festival. Ben Palmer, who runs Michelin-starred restaurant The Sardine Factory in West Looe, will also be part of the event. He calls Looe ‘a great foodie destination’ because the town is home to ‘some of the best ingredients in the world in and around our waters’.
One of the centrepieces of the fest will be the Food Show, which starts at 11am on the day. Gorton will compere the show, where he will work closely with nine chefs during their cookery demonstrations. Gorton will also deliver a cookery demo himself. Chefs are expected to share their ‘tips of the trade’ in the show while highlighting how to cook delicious dishes using local produce supplied by traditional farm shop Quayside Fresh and local fish supplier Simply Fish.
As well as the Food Show, there will be an area where traders will showcase only the best regional produce and products. Cornish Orchards will be bringing their ciders and apple juices, and Copperfish Distillery will roll out their gins.
The free-to-enter festival is sponsored by two local businesses, Cornish Collection Ltd and Tregoad/Waterside Holiday Group. Visitors will get to enjoy some fab live music from the likes of the Wreckers, whose ‘harmonised tones have raised thousands of pounds for the RNLI’, say the organisers. Blues and roots singer Russell Sinclair will also play to the crowds.
Looe is becoming more popular with visitors by the day, thanks to its starring role in BBC crime drama series ‘Beyond Paradise’. The TV show is filmed largely in the south coast town which is known as Shipton Abbot in the drama. A second series of the show, as well as a Christmas special, is being filmed in Cornwall this year.
