REDRUTH FREEMASONS MASONIC LODGE OPEN DAY 2023 TAKES PLACE ON SATURDAY 9 SEPTEMBER 2023. GET A RARE GLIMPSE OF THIS BEAUTIFUL LODGE AS THE LOCAL MASONS MEET AND GREET THE PUBLIC BETWEEN 10AM AND 5.30PM. THIS IS A PROMOTIONAL FEATURE…

For hundreds of years, the Freemasons have been veiled in secrecy. They have strange symbols. Hidden handshakes. Non-utterable passwords. They operate under the darkness of night and no-one shall see their mysterious lodges unless they join the movement…

Except, of course, that’s all total rubbish! For hundreds of years, in fact, the Freemasons have been subject to all sorts of gossip that has added a veil of secrecy that simply isn’t there. And how do we know that?

Well, we know that because the Freemasons hold open days where the public can go and see their majestic lodges for themselves and meet the Freemasons to find out what they do, what charities they support and to ask them all sorts of questions about their organisation.

And if you live in Redruth or the surrounding areas, you’ll be delighted to know that one such open day is coming to a masonic hall near you in early September.

The Redruth Masonic Lodge in Cornwall holds its open day on Saturday 9 September 2023. Here its chequered floor and surrounding blue carpet make for an ornate interior set against pillars, plaques and banners

On Saturday 9 September 2023, the Redruth Masonic Hall in Green Lane holds its Redruth Freemasons Masonic Lodge Open Day 2023. Between 10am and 5.30pm, the building throws open it doors and invites all members of the public to come in, tour the premises and learn all about what a Freemason does alongside what happens in a typical meeting.

Anyone can go along from any walk of life. Handily, the open day takes place while the Redruth International Mining and Pasty Festival 2023 is on, which runs between Friday 8 and Sunday 10 September 2023 across town and involves all sort of pasty and mining-related activities and events, including eating challenges, traditional dance and history tours.

Thousands of locals and visitors are expected across Redruth over the weekend so why don’t you pop into the masonic lodge while you’re there to see this splendid building on the inside and to meet the Freemasons who are more than happy to answer your questions? Just remember: the Redruth Freemasons say they are like an international trade union with a special interest in helping the community and doing good work for charity. They want to meet you and tell you all about their activities.

There are actually three lodges based at the Masonic Hall in Green Lane: the Druids Lodge, the Trevithick Lodge and the St Euny Lodge, which is the smallest of the three.

Mike Aireton, Master of St Euny Lodge, says: “We are not a secret society, as many people like to believe. In Redruth, we are a group of local people who aim for high moral standards and focus on friendship. We are always looking to meet new friends and that is why we are having this open day, so that Redruth people and people from across Cornwall can see our lodge, explore it and meet us.”

“We may not be a secret society,” adds Aireton, “but I guess you can call this an infrequent opportunity to look at our lodge in that we just don’t often have occasion to open it up to the public.”

Aireton continues: “Come and see the chequered pavement that symbolises the good people around you at all times: those who can offer help and those who are in need of help. Come and see some of our symbols and learn what they mean. Come and meet us and find out the part the masonic movement plays in both local and international affairs.

“All are welcome,” concludes the Master of St Euny Lodge. “We look forward to seeing you there!”
