THE ST ENDELLION SUMMER FESTIVAL 2024 IS BETWEEN TUESDAY 30 JULY AND FRIDAY 9 AUGUST 2024 AT THE CHURCH NEAR PORT ISAAC. IT FEATURES SOME OF THE MOST STUNNING CHORAL MUSIC THIS SIDE OF THE TAMAR BRIDGE

Heavenly music inside a church. That certainly has a ring to it. And it pretty much describes the St Endellion Summer Festival 2024 in just five words. We can make it 21, though: heavenly music played by superb instrumentalists and singers inside a beautiful Cornish church during a number of concerts in early August. There. That wasn’t difficult.

The St Endellion Summer Festival 2024 is an array of live concerts that take place between Tuesday 30 July and Friday 9 August 2023 inside Cornwall’s St Endellion Church in the parish of St Endellion near Port Isaac. Expect choral masterpieces, orchestral barnstormers and works by the some of the most talented composers in history.

Also expect mostly evening performances in the balmy summer weather. The programme follows the St Endellion Easter Festival 2024 at the church. Both fests make up the annual programme that’s organised by St Endellion Festivals, a group that’s run independently from the religious institution.

What to expect at the 2024 St Endellion Summer Festival, though? Well, in short, cracking choral concerts, outstanding orchestral performances and champion chamber music, with all sorts of classical styles in between. We will give you the full rundown of the 2024 programme as and when it is announced.

The summer festival’s 2023 edition saw artistic directors Roderick Williams and Joely Koos taking audiences on a multi-day journey into music, acoustics and sound. Highlights came in the shape of opera, with ‘Verdi La Traviata’ being staged at the church over three nights and orchestral performances including Rachmaninov’s second symphony.

There were also choral and orchestral delights with the Durufle Requiem, Haydn Trumpet Concerto and Brahms Alto Rhapsody being performed inside the church. And for an absolute chamber treat, Schoenberg Verklärte Nacht was a treat.

Koos’ expertise in ‘all things instrumental’ and Williams’ ‘understanding of choral and solo singing’ worked together in harmony throughout the 2023 festival to create a festival programme that satisfied across the board.

Organisers said there was ‘a wide variety of beautiful and inspiring chamber music’ during the 2023 edition, however expect the St Endellion Summer Festival 2024 to be even bigger and better.

It’s actually the 65rd edition of the summer festival in 2024, showing just how long and successful this seasonal programme has proved to be. Be sure to check the website link for more details and tickets. And then, as composer George Gershwin once told us, it’s summertime and the livin’ is easy. Well, the music is easy, at least, at this unique Cornish choral and orchestral festival in the summertime.
