THE TRURO ST PIRAN’S MARKET 2024 TAKES PLACE IN THE CITY ON SATURDAY 2 MARCH 2024 (JUST BEFORE ST PIRAN’S DAY 2024). ENJOY AN EPIC PASTY MAKING COMPETITION, A ‘BATTLE OF THE BAKERIES’ AND MANY AWESOME STALLS…

How are you celebrating St Piran’s Day 2024 in Cornwall? If you’re looking for ideas then see our feature story on St Piran’s Day: here. But if you’re looking for something to do on the weekend just before then, ah, you’ve come to the right place! If you love browsing market stalls and seeing superb homemade pasty creations, well, you’ve definitely come to the right place!

The Truro St Piran’s Market 2024 – run by the same team that’s behind the annual Truro Christmas Market and the regular farmers markets in the city – takes place on the weekend before the 2024 St Piran’s Day, which falls on Tuesday 5 March 2024. It takes place on Saturday 2 March 2024 between 9am and 4pm on Lemon Quay. Expect an incredible market with some fab activities running alongside it.

Despite it being before the big celebration of Cornwall and its patron saint, the market is nevertheless dedicated to ‘one of the most important days in the Cornish calendar’. For us, it’s one of the big St Piran’s Day highlights in Truro. The organisers invite people to join them ‘for a fun-filled family day celebrating all things Cornish’.

The organisers also traditionally call it ‘a bumper market’ as, in essence, it is a bigger version of the regular Saturday farmers markets that take place on Lemon Quay. Expect a bumper array of stalls plus extra street food and live music.

Crafts, arts, drinks, foods, trinkets, beauty products and much more besides are on sale across multiple stalls at the market. Also expect folk hero Will Keating, who also performs in The Oggymen, to play live on the day. There are competitions, more live music and ‘an abundance of local traders’ on the day.

The market also sees the return of the event’s ultra-popular Truro Farmers Market Pasty Making Competition 2024, which was last year hailed as ‘a resounding success’.

In 2023, two categories – ‘Cornwall’ and ‘Rest of The World’ – were represented and the competition was open to anyone who wanted to take part. It’s the same again this year, in terms of the fact that anyone can enter.

Last year, the competition was judged by members of the Buscombe family from The Cornish Mill & Bakehouse, who certainly know their meat and potatoes. Competitors brought their hot or cold ready-to-eat pasty to the market in the morning and the rest is history!

A new event at the St Piran’s Truro Market 2024 is the ‘Battle of the Bakeries 2024’. Oggy lovers can nominate their favourite local bakery for the inaugural prize. This is an extension of the much-loved pasty making competition so that the Duchy’s bakeries can be included because, well, they deserve it. Find more details on this at the market’s official Facebook page: here.

Pasties, stalls, a famous folk musician and a big bakery competition. It’s all about celebrating the Duchy at one of the best farmers markets in Cornwall when it takes place on Saturday 2 March 2024. Happy St Piran’s Day 2024, one and all!
