Some would say this is the ‘big one’. The most Halloween of all the Cornwall Halloween 2023 events. The spookiest of the spooky. The eeriest of the eerie. The Zombie Walk St Austell 2023 should make for an utterly ghoulish sight as more undead ghouls than you could shake a skeletal stick at take to the streets and lanes across St Austell for a night of creepy fun and spooky celebrations.
There’s a focus on kids and families at the St Austell Zombie Walk 2023, which is on Halloween night itself, Tuesday 31 October 2023. But anyone is welcome to dress up in their most gruesome garb and join in the event, which is organised by the Cornwall Performing Arts group.
As darkness falls, the party starts at the St Austell Market House from 6pm. The house acts as the base over the next couple of hours as all the frightening fun unfolds. There’s an expectant atmosphere in the air before the big parade.
Look out for the pre-party at Market House with a load of children’s entertainment, as well as dancing, games, music, crafts and refreshments. And then the big event really begins as the annual grand parade of zombies, phantoms, ghouls, ghosts, witches, werewolves, demons and Draculas leave Market House at 7pm and head out into the moonlit night.
All those on parade are encouraged to scream and wail as the gruesome group winds its way through the streets en masse to, in the words of the organisers, ‘the haunting beats of the zombie drummers’. It’s a wicked sight so even if you’re not taking part, do bring your smartphone or camera and capture the incredible costumes and ghoulish behaviour.
There are traditionally ‘flash mob spectacles’ along the way before a mass zombie dance at the end of the parade at 8pm. Prizes are given out for the best costumes.
