Port Isaac is a beautiful treasure. And so is its Cliffside Gallery, a studio space within a stone’s throw of the clifftop. Welcome to a gallery that any art lover who visits this part of the county is encouraged to explore and enjoy.

Cliffside is a working studio gallery that was founded in 1997 by artist Katie Childs after she had finished her degree in textiles. What makes this place different to most of the other galleries that are splashed across Cornwall is that it solely features the works of just one prolific talent: Katie Childs herself. She holds an ever-changing exhibition of her own work across the space’s walls throughout the year.

Katie Childs says that the landscape around her ‘provides a constant inspiration and theme’ throughout her paintings. She notes that colour and texture are her ‘passions’ and she reflects this by combining oil pastels and collages to create some incredible masterpieces that she either keeps for visitors to the gallery to marvel at or sells them to art enthusiasts across the globe. Port Isaac is obviously a popular location she brings to life in her paintings due to its proximity but other scenes depicting local Cornish landscapes and the coastline also feature heavily in the artist’s works.

For those wanting to buy, there are paintings on sale at Cliffside as well as some of Katie Childs’ most intriguing works on items like blinds, cushions and coasters. Just ask her when you drop by as she may be working in her studio on her next masterpiece. Visiting Cliffside is just one way to bring your trip to Port Isaac alive with colour, texture and original art.
