There seems to be a bird theme going on when it comes to Porthleven’s art galleries. There’s the Albatross Gallery and then, well, there’s the Four Crows Gallery. Okay, that’s not a lot but, as with magpies, at least this spells artistic joy in the Cornish town.
Four Crows Gallery was founded by artist Suzie Williams in 2012, who immediately busied herself with amassing an eclectic collection of quirky and unusual arts and crafts from across the UK and beyond. There’s a wide variety of arts and artists across the shelves and walls here, including many pieces from Cornish talents. In fact, Williams paints at the gallery and she’s always accompanied by her trusty cat, Reggie.
Handcrafted glassworks, jewellery, ceramics, candles, textiles, paintings, prints and cards are packed into this upbeat gallery. Much of the ware is for sale as you’d expect but visitors are welcome to just come and browse through the mixed works of local and international creatives. It’s worth putting some time aside for this visit before hitting the town again in search of all that incredible seafood in its restaurants. Now that’s something to crow about.
