There are theatres and then there are THEATRES. And by that, we mean that some theatres go to great lengths to not only provide a stage and auditorium, but to provide a unique setting and ambiance. Sterts Theatre and Arts Centre is a THEATRE. It’s unique and makes for an unforgettable experience, whatever show you’re watching.

Sterts, at Upton Cross on the edge of Bodmin Moor and not too far away from Liskeard, is one of the UK’s most unique theatrical settings as it’s a 400-seat tented amphitheatre. It’s open to the Bodmin Moor air yet it’s also protected by a huge canopy should any summer showers decide to show up. The brainchild of theatre and music experts Ewart and Anne Sturrock – who transformed a pig farm into a thriving arts centre – it opened in 1990 and has staged countless performances ever since.

The open-air theatre is obviously the big attraction at Sterts but it also has a studio and gallery on the site. The team behind the venue are committed to nurturing the local theatre and arts scene – especially young talents – however they are also adept at attracting acts from across the UK to pull the crowds into this incredible setting. Cornish folk rock band The Countrymen have taken to the stage, as have a plethora of touring performance troupes and spectacular kid’s acting groups. There’s something for everyone, including from the venue’s own Sterts Theatre Company.

Check out the Sterts website to find out what shows and concerts are coming up and then prepare for a magical experience under that canopy on the edge of beautiful Bodmin Moor. This is what THEATRE is all about.
