Ah, beautiful St Ives. This famous Cornish town is known for its idyllic harbour, its quaint shops, its cobbled streets and its internationally celebrated art scene. It’s perhaps less known, however, for its beaches. But beaches it does have like Porthmeor and Porthgwidden. They are all superb, particularly Porthminster Beach.

Porthminster has the backdrop to create a sumptuous summer scene. In fact, you could say this place boasts a tropical feel with its palm trees, white sands and green-blue waters. Lush green hills and old cottages surround the bay, with St Ives off to one side and Godrevy Lighthouse out on its island to the other side. It doesn’t take too long to walk from the centre of St Ives to this beach so you can enjoy these smooth sands, this clean water and those impressive vistas.

Lifeguards are stationed on the beach over the summer and it’s a safe place for swimmers of all ages, so many families lay their towels down here for a whole day. A mini golf course nearby also provides much entertainment. There is plenty of car parking at the beach and dogs can enjoy the space too, apart from over the summer months. So it’s worth hitting this beach up if you want to relax, enjoy some play time with the family or, like so many in St Ives before you, if you want to pick up a paintbrush and capture one of the finest beach vistas in Cornwall on canvas.
