Families and beach-lovers are spoilt for choice in Cornwall. There are so many sandy spots that are perfect for a day under the summer sun. We recommend plenty of hotspots around the county but high up on our list is Widemouth Bay.

Just three miles to the south of Bude on the north Cornish coast, Widemouth Bay is excellent for sunbathers and families. This is a long open bay that boasts a large sandy area at its north end which becomes even bigger at low tide. To the south there are some great rock formations to enjoy. On the beach, swimming and sunbathing is the order of the day, although there is some excellent surf out there for those with a board. In fact, there are a few surf schools around so this beach is a great place for newbies to learn the art. Kids also love hunting for sea life in the rockpools that lie at the edge of the sands.

Ample parking is available next to the beach and there are plenty of surfy shops and great places to grab lunch. Dogs are banned, however, during the summer months but lifeguard cover is on hand over that same period. Protip: the sunsets from Widemouth can be stunning so stick around if you’re into nature’s most beautiful scenes. Or head off for a bite as the day draws to a close. Either way, you’ll have enjoyed a gorgeous beach with surf options, rockpool fun and plenty of space for the whole family to enjoy.
