Tunes in the Dunes has become a massive hit over the past decade. This epic festival takes place every May on the sands of Perranporth Beach in Perranporth. To find out about that barnstormer of a fest’s 2024 edition, see: here. But now there’s a new series of festivals that have sprung up on the idyllic Perranporth Beach: Bands in the Sands 2024.
In 2023, Bands in the Sands debuted to massive fanfare. It’s less a festival, really, than a series of live music events on those golden dunes. Born from the fab live music events that have been run by nearby pub-on-the-beach The Watering Hole for many years (including Tunes in the Dunes, in fact), this series of concerts is unique, given that they all take place on the beach, next to the sea, over the hotter months.
The 2024 Bands in the Sands festival is set to be cracking. A ‘throwback party’, a dance orchestral show, a fest next to a quarry (okay, this isn’t exactly on the beach but it’s part of Bands in the Sands anyway), a major pop concert and the best shanty act in the universe.
Who is playing bands in the Sands 2024? On Friday 21 June 2024, the Throwback Beach Party features DJ Marvin Humes alongside none other than Atomic Kitten and Five! And on Saturday 22 June 2024, the Ibiza Beach Orchestra show featuring Symphonic Ibiza takes place.
The Wild Gardens of Port Eliot 2024 fest takes people away from the sands and on to the Port Eliot estate, next to a quarry, which is all the way towards Plymouth near St Germans between Friday 5 and Sunday 7 July 2024. On Friday 20 September 2024, the Vengaboys will play the 2024 Bands in the Sands festival on Perranporth Beach, which is a massive draw. And the festival finishes on a soulful note on Saturday 21 September 2024 when Cornwall’s own shanty superstars, Fisherman’s Friends, hit the stage. Sam Ryder, the superstar who finished second in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, rocked the 2023 Bands in the Sands festival. That gig was swiftly followed up by Xavier Rudd a day later. The Australian singer-songwriter, who plays a multitude of instruments in his shows, was a great fit as he is all about being environmentally and socially conscious. His gig was followed by Martin Kemp’s 80s party.
Later in the year, Bands in the Sands 2023 kicked off again with a Ministry of Sound Disco on the beach and then there was the Chris Moyles 90s Hangover Show a day later, which rounded out the inaugural year of this new sandy festival.
