CORNWALL’S BIGGEST LIVE MUSIC FESTIVAL, BOARDMASTERS 2024, IS EXPECTED TO TAKE PLACE OVER A WEEKEND IN EARLY AUGUST 2024. WATCH THIS SPACE FOR ALL THE DETAILS AND LINE-UP NEWS. BE THERE IN THE SUN FOR THE FUN…

Newquay and summer, for many, means surfing. For five days in August 2024, though, it means surfing, live music and an inimitable party atmosphere. The annual Boardmasters festival is expected to return to the Cornish seaside town for its 2024 edition in early August, however the dates have not yet been announced.

Expect it to take place between a Wednesday and Sunday in the first half of the month, though. And then it’s time to get your sun hat on and glowsticks in the air along with more than 50,000 other festival fans!

Boardmasters, which was first held in 1981, is a combination of the best live music and an array of surfing, BMX and skateboarding competitions in and around Newquay. The main festival locations are Fistral Beach, where the famous Boardmasters international surfing competitions take place, and Watergate Bay, where the many live music stages blast tunes out for those with tickets, as well as those camping over the five days.

The Boardmasters lineup 2024 is yet to be announced. But the 2023 lineup was tasty. The music really got going on the Friday, which was headlined by Lorde. Ben Howard was a special guest on the Friday and Cypress Hill also played to the crowds.

Liam Gallagher headlined the Saturday. He, of course, needed no introduction, just like Little Simz, who supported Gallagher on the night. On the Sunday, Florence + The Machine headlined following performances by the likes of Dermot Kennedy, Four Tet and Paul Woolford.

In 2022, the likes of the Kings of Leon, Disclosure, Bastille, Idles, George Ezra, Tom Grennan and Shy FX headlined the weekend alongside many, many more bands and DJs. There were also Beach Sessions with live music over on Fistral, as well as beach bars and barbecues.

There are traditionally food zones, wellbeing areas, surf lessons, all those competitions during the days and silent discos at night. Plus, after the live gigs each night, there are always after-show parties at clubs around Newquay’s town centre.

Tickets go fast due to the overwhelming popularity of Boardmasters but even if you don’t get one, it’s worth soaking up the atmosphere that envelops Newquay during this high octane event.

Do keep an eye on news and updates regarding the 2024 Boardmasters festival, though. There have been plans to grow the event in the works, with the organisers announcing they plan to change it from 2024. There have been criticisms over the traffic created by the festival in the past, although many local businesses welcome it due to the trade opportunities.

If you are going to the 2024 fest, though, when it’s all announced and after Boardmasters tickets 2024 go on sale, then prepare to ride the wave of one of the best surfing-meets-live music events in the world… because, of course, we all need a good blow-out!
