There’s a wealth of beach options in and around Newquay. But if you’re not into serious surfing or hanging out with young families, then Watergate Bay in Cornwall is your best bet. At low tide, this beach is perfect for finding plenty of space on its long stretches of golden sands.

Backed by high cliffs, Watergate Bay does offer some decent surf and there are local surf schools that take eager people out on the waves. But the vibe is more relaxing than the cool-surf of Fistral and this is pretty much down to the great amount of space that’s available for visitors to set up their beach towels. Also take a walk along the coastal paths around here as there’s lots to explore.

There are plenty of top nearby restaurants and places to take refreshments at Watergate Bay in Cornwall, which is also known as Tregurrian, and there is lifeguard cover on the beach throughout the summer. Dogs are also welcome year-round and look out for the regular events on the beach throughout the year, covering a range of different sports and activities. But if you’re not interested in all that, just find a spot and relax. That is not a difficult task on this long stretch of superb sand.
