MEVAGISSEY FEAST WEEK 2025 TAKES PLACE IN THE CORNISH SOUTH COAST VILLAGE BETWEEN SUNDAY 29 AND SATURDAY 5 JULY 2025. EXPERIENCE A WEEK OF ACTIVITIES IN A FESTIVAL THAT DATES BACK HUNDREDS OF YEARS…
Cornwall may have a fair amount of annual festivals that date back many years but few are as old as Mevagissey Feast Week 2025. Dating back more than 250 years, the first recorded Feast Week in Mevagissey took place in 1754. So know that if you go along to the pretty Cornish south coast village to catch the festivities in 2025, you’re taking part in an important piece of history.
This festival, which takes place between Sunday 29 June and Saturday 5 July 2025, is based around the Feast of St Peter. St Peter is the patron saint of fishermen and, for obvious reasons, has been revered in these parts for hundreds of years. The actual feast date is on Sunday 29 June 2025, although the activities and events take place in the week leading up to the big day.
The Feast Week was actually originally held every December prior to the 1750s. But as it coincided with one of the peak fishing periods for the village, it was moved to 29 June during that decade. And this date has stuck ever since. It also used to be a fairly religious festival, with much feasting (yes, that’s where the name came from), going to church and children’s games. But in the 1960s, it became a whole week with an assortment of events and activities that involve much of the Mevagissey community over multiple days.
What’s on the menu at Mevagissey Feast Week 2025? Well, expect live music, prize draws, a whole lotta local food to sample, some huge and colourful parades and a few raft races taking place out on the water. Events and activities happen across the village all week and include fish feasts, exhibitions, choirs, flora dances, demonstrations, kids’ activities and a massive firework display.
