SQUASHBOX THEATRE PLAYS A SHOW FOR KIDS AT ST JOHN’S CHURCH IN DELABOLE ON SATURDAY 26 AUGUST 2023. SUITABLE FOR AGES FIVE AND OVER, THIS SHOULD BE AN ABSOLUTE TREAT FOR THE LITTLE MONSTERS…

Do your kids need a little entertainment as the school summer holidays near their end? Do your kids love puppets and stories? Are your kids in Cornwall on Saturday 26 August 2023? If the answer to those three questions is a resounding ‘yes’, then we have a pretty good suggestion for you…

Head to Delabole! Yes, Squashbox Theatre is playing a fab pay-what-you-decide show for kids in two sessions on Saturday 26 August 2023 at St John’s Church in Delabole’s High Street. Suitable for any child who’s five years old or older, this should be a cracking show full of puppets, stories and plenty of comedy. The two performances are on at 12 midday and 3pm.

Delabole is near Camelford and just inland from both Tintagel and Port Isaac. The church is a friendly place and should be the perfect setting for this lively performance.

The show itself is called ‘SkillyWidden’. It takes the young audience on ‘a journey through the Cornish countryside’ in search of the Duchy’s ‘elusive faeries’. The performance is ‘a celebration of the wildlife and faery myths of Cornwall’, say the organisers.

Squashbox Theatre uses a fun mix of puppets, songs, storytelling and cabaret in its shows. It is run by Craig Johnson from Penzance, a puppeteer, musician and actor. He has previously said that his aim with the theatre company is to make shows that are ‘funny, friendly, surprising, inspiring, unusual, informative and a little bit mischievous’. There’s slapstick, silliness and plenty of musical fun in each show.

Endelienta Arts is behind this ‘SkillyWidden’ show. The organisation puts on a wealth of music concerts at St Endellion Church throughout the year but, for this performance, it has joined hands with St John’s Church. And again, it’s pay-what-you-decide. You decide how much the performance is worth. Be generous, though, if the kids have had a wonderful time.

You must book your tickets in advance and bring cash with you on the day for the pay-what-you-decide collection. To book your tickets, click on the ‘website’ link above. And then, just as the summer holidays are coming to a close, your kids can get some magical entertainment with faeries and puppets inside that gorgeous church in Delabole.
