THE LIFEBOAT CEILIDH 2024 TAKES PLACE AT THE NATIONAL MARITIME MUSEUM CORNWALL IN FALMOUTH ON SATURDAY 23 MARCH 2024 BETWEEN 7PM AND 11PM. DANCE, ENJOY GREAT MUSIC AND RAISE CASH FOR CHARITY AT THIS EVENT…

Who doesn’t love a good ceilidh? This traditional Gaelic pastime that always includes plenty of dancing and lots of live music (the word actually comes from Scotland and is akin to a barn dance) is still going strong today in Cornwall. But it’s an even better event when it’s a charitable one.

The Lifeboat Ceilidh takes place on Saturday 23 March 2023, from 7pm to 11pm, at Falmouth‘s National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Discovery Quay. The event is part of the RNLI’s 200th anniversary celebrations.

On the bill for the evening is music and dancing alongside the Tinners Ceilidh Band, as well as singing from The Bryher Boys Sea Shanty Group who are well known across the Duchy. Expect a raffle on the night too, organised by the Falmouth Lifeboat Fundraisers.

‘Betty Stogs’ (not the actual Betty Stogs from the folk story…) is the compere. Actually, it’s officially Betty Stogs The Cornish Charity Maid, played by Fred Thomas, who will also help with a charity auction that will be held during the event.

Tickets are £20 for adults and teenagers over the age of 14 years old. Under-14s are more than invited too, though. They are £10 each. The ticket price includes a scrumptious local Cornish pasty from Pip’s Pasties. Of course, drinks are also available throughout the evening. They can be bought at the bar.

And here’s the charitable angle: all of the proceeds from the event will be given to the Falmouth Lifeboat organisation to, as the organisers put it, ‘support the next 200 years of saving lives at sea in Cornwall’. The event is sponsored by Cornwall Marine Network.

To snap up your tickets, click on the ‘Website’ link above (although Eventbrite (please note there is a booking fee of £2.38 per adult ticket). Alternatively, grab your tickets in person at Falmouth‘s at 44 Arwenack Street between 11am and 3pm on any weekday or Saturday. And then get those dancing shoes on as you enjoy a special ceilidh while raising money to keep all of us in Cornwall safe and sound.
