CORNWALL PRIDE 2023 SEES THE DUCHY AWASH WITH RAINBOW FLAGS BETWEEN APRIL AND SEPTEMBER. SUPPORT HUGE PRIDE PARADES IN CORNISH TOWNS OVER THE SUMMER AS WELL AS OTHER EVENTS IN 2023

Over the past 15 years, Cornwall Pride has flourished in all the colours of the rainbow. But Cornwall Pride 2022 scaled new heights. To mark the 50th anniversary of Pride in the UK, there were 11 community events across the Duchy rather than just the traditional single event in Newquay. It was a move that was made to ensure that far more towns were able to get involved and support both the LGBTQ+ community and all marginalised people in Cornish society.

But now we’re looking at the Cornwall Pride 2023 parades and events. And it’s set to be even bigger, more colourful and all-round better than those epics events of ’22. The Cornwall Pride Bus got into gear in February to promote the parades and events that are happening in the summer. So much to see and do. And so many ways that you can support Cornwall’s LGBTQ+ community along the way.

Each event in 2022 took place on a Saturday. There were parades and all sorts of other associated events, each adding a splash of colour to the participating town. There were also specific themes depending upon the town, with the opening event on 7 May in Falmouth carrying ‘the Launch of Pride 50’ theme right up to the final Saturday of the lot in Redruth on 23 July, where the theme was ‘Celtic’. Notable days included Saturday 14 May in Newquay (theme: Human Rights and Trans Pride), Saturday 18 June in Truro (theme: History and Adult Education) and Saturday 9 July: St Austell (theme: Wellbeing).

Anyway, that was 2022 and now we look forward to Cornwall Pride 2023 across the Duchy. And here are the headline events that have been so far announced:

The spokesperson says: “We aim to stand in solidarity with anyone who has faced discrimination at any point. We are also continuing to move forward in 2023 with our dedicated wellbeing programme, ‘Penguin Soup’, with the aim of reducing mental ill health and suicide rates among our adult LGBTQ+ community in Cornwall.”
