Fowey River Gallery has become the beating art of this idyllic port town. The team behind the gallery says that it believes in a ‘deceptively simple concept: an art gallery should be a dynamic, ever-changing showcase for talented artists’.
This gallery is indeed that. There’s a featured local artist every month on its walls and all visitors are welcomed by the team to browse the new exhibitions as well as plenty of other artistic works too. It’s all housed in an elegant Georgian building in Fowey that’s split into two floors, the upper showcasing the featured exhibition and the lower selling artistic wares like bags, jewellery and arty souvenirs.
There’s an authentic Cornish feel to this gallery as many of its exhibitions focus on the county’s landscape and dynamic scenes around its fishing villages. And it isn’t always paintings that are on display as past exhibitions have included jewellery, ceramics and glassworks to name but a few media. Okay, the space is hardly huge but it is cute and can help visitors unearth some superb artistic talents, mainly from the local region. While Fowey paints a pretty picture outside, its River Gallery is a fascinating little masterpiece.
